Workshops in Action

This week has seen the successful completion of the second week of the program.
The young women have all expressed their interest and enjoyment so far.  We have had some lively discussions and been exploring lots of new ideas and information.  This week's topics have included Sexual and Reproductive Health, Life skills, Relationships, Reproductive anatomy & physiology, and menstruation and conception.
We have also completed two of the introductory livelihood skills - papermaking, and making baskets from recycled materials.  The women learnt how to make small colourful baskets out of their rubbish and were thrilled with the results!
We have been working with APHEDA, an organisation with experience educating in using recycled materials for making marketable products.  They will also be joining us to train the young women in financial literacy.
Our catering team have also been hard at work, producing fine hot lunches every day - thank you!

PROGRAM IS ABOUT TO BEGIN!

December has been a busy and rewarding month!  We have visited Kofiloko a couple of times and selected 20 young mothers to be a part of the program.
Yesterday, these 20 participants came for an introductory session in anticipation of the formal start on Monday.  It was great to meet everyone and to see their excitement and eagerness to start the program.
On Monday, we will begin with 3 days focusing on “ourselves”.  This includes topics such as culture and values, self esteem, our rights as women and an introduction to gender.
Our practical skill focus for the first week is Papermaking.  We will be recycling and making new paper to use for gift wrapping and packaging.  Participants will be encouraged to use their creativity and come up with new things to make with their hand-made paper.
We are busy preparing FANTASITC screen printed bags and materials for the course.  Our energy is high and we are looking forward to the week ahead!
